Active on the Internet since the mid-1990s. Deep
technical understanding of most Internet protocols, including
underlying sockets programming. See my PSPSOCK
ISeries sockets framework and Sockets
Overview for ISeries IT managers. Those are on ISeries
platform. Also see my Java-based web
site monitoring service which includes sockets programming
to support HTTP/HTTPS protocols
Owner of several valuable
domain names. Ongoing tracking of 'domain monetisation'
options. In total my 15 Web sites get about 25,000 visits per day.
Good familiarity with multilingual web sites in Chinese, Japanese,
Arabic and European languages. In-depth use of Google AdSense and
AdWords programmes.
Hands-on development of all these sites using C/C++ then Java.
First on ISeries then on Linux (initially RedHat, now CentOS).
Through JDBC, familiar with DB2 and PostgreSQL databases. Large
own sites - total about 250,000 lines of OO code - inevitably
required careful considerations of development paradigms (MVC,
frameworks, patterns etc.) and development platforms (workbenches
such as Eclipse, ANT, multi-machine testing and deployment etc.).
Increasingly outsourced web site development and multilingual
issues to partners via the Internet. Very comfortable with how to
manage these relationships.
Main development environment is open-source (primarily Java
Tomcat, Linux and PostgreSQL). Knowledgeable on other major
technologies in this area - Javascript, J2EE, PHP etc. Some
knowledge of proprietary Microsoft technology (.NET).
